Starting Point Series Introduction

Welcome to Thread. And welcome to the Starting Point Series. A sermon series about beginning (again).

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” - Lamentations 3:22-23

It’s no surprise that the most memorable verse in Lamentations is one of the few lines that is not a lament. In the midst of great trials, Jeremiah reminds us that God’s mercy allows us to start anew every morning. Indeed, the Christian life is full of starts and restarts as we journey toward that Day that will never end.

We often define “success” in our faith by what we produce. Maybe this is a product of our consumer minded culture. But the reality is we wi
ll fail and have setbacks as Christians. Our success can’t be based on success. A truer measure of “success” is faithfulness after failure.

A successful walk with God is a series of beginning and re-beginning, again and again.
New every morning, indeed! We are all getting back up from some form of getting knocked down. We’re all at a starting point in one way or another. Realizing this can be a wearying position. It often takes more effort to take first steps. The podcast episodes, sermon threads, and integrated teaching of this first Thread series are all designed to help us get to a place where we can set out on this new journey. We’re not looking for quick fixes. This is foundational. The answers will come as we continue on this three year adventure through scripture. But only for those who are willing to begin again.- Joel Nagel, Thread Series Producer, DCE.
