An Invitation to Daily Walk With God - By Brian Felushko

An Invitation to a Daily Walk with God

In 2008, is it your goal to…
• Know God better? (Ephesians 1:17)
• Seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness? (Matthew 6:33)
• Pay more careful attention to the things you have heard? (Hebrews 2:1)
• Know the truth and be set free from sin? (John 8:31-32)
• Build your life on the rock? (Matthew 7:24-25)

The first, and absolutely essential, step toward any (or all) of these goals is to develop the godly habit of having a daily time in the word of God. I know all the excuses, because I’ve either heard them or used them myself. Yes, life is busy and full of demands on our time, but if we call ourselves Jesus’ disciples and thus desire to know God and do his will in our daily lives, then we have no choice but to make the time, daily, to hear his voice.

I want to invite you to join me in 2008 on a journey through the New Testament. We will be taking a step every day, not in giant leaps, but in steps that anyone who truly wants to know God and his will better can take. Each day we will read about a chapter of the New Testament and, with the help of comments and/or questions, take some time to reflect on what God is trying to communicate to us. If each of us then take some time and talk to God about what we heard him say to us through his word, we will each spend about one half hour in real communion with our God!

That half hour or so spent every day with God, will help determine how we live in 2008: we will mature in Christ rather than drift away from God; we will be able to make righteousness choices and exercise self-denial as needed rather than give into self, sin and Satan when tempted; we will be salt and light to the world leading others to praise God rather than going unnoticed and being ineffective in terms of making a difference for God.

I believe that 2008 can be the best year we’ve ever had (both individually and collectively) in our walk with God, our imitation of, and obedience to, Christ and our impact on the world in which we now live. Let us spur one another one to love and good deeds by traveling together through the Holy Spirit inspired, living and active, word of God.
